First Aid in Remote Locations course makes life savers- before it finishes

We believe that first aid can be life saving, and that good first aid training is central to this, but there is more than one way to save a life. We now donate to Malaria No More making every delegate that attends our First Aid in Remote Locations course a life saver. So whilst they are learning the skills to save a life, we feel that they are actually saving the life of someone in sub-saharan Africa at the same time.

The work of charities such as Malaria no More is an essential part of the fight against this deadly disease. On our First Aid in Remote Locations courses the delegates are learning and practicing how to deal with catastrophic wounds, but also how to care for a sick colleague, so it’s in keeping that we are so concerned about Malaria.

On the latest course run in the first week of May, our donation allowed testing and treatment to be offered to 100 people, so with 11 delegates on the course that works out at just under 10 lives saved each! Not bad going, especially when you add on the number of times they saved our “casualties” on their #trainforreal first aid training. “Calamity Claire” and “Suffering Sam” [our live role players] had a total of 14 accidents across the course.

If you would like to know more about the work of Malaria No More follow this link, if you would like to know more about our First Aid in Remote Locations course then [again] follow the link, or give us on a call on 0800 242 5210.

Increasing range of media safety training courses

Lazarus Training is continuing to develop its training catalogue with an increasing range of media safety training courses. To enable people to find the required information as easily as possible we are developing a range of topic specific websites. Whether its our range of media first aid training courses, our workplace safety training or our first aid training for hostile and challenging environments- you’ll find the key information online.

For example we have specific pages for our first aid in hostile environments training: http://mediafirstaidtraining.com/first-aid-in-hostile-locations

Or maybe you are looking for something a little less..”war like”- then any of our range of media safety training courses from our media first aid training project might be of interest. Information on our First Aid in the Office or Studio, First Aid on Locations and First Aid in Remote Locations courses might be of interest. For these we have set up a mini-website at http://mediafirstaidtraining.com/

As the above courses are relatively new, having been written purely for the media industry, we thought people might like to “see” what the training is like, how it’s delivered etc. To allow this we are constantly uploaded footage and images to our websites, but also to our YouTube Channel. Please note that we have worked with the media for many years- but we are a wide range of media safety training people- not cameramen! Apologies for any dodgy camera work or editing.

If you are interested in talking to someone about our courses call us on 0800 242 5210 or drop as an email to info@lazarustraining.co.uk.

If you want to know more about us as a company, how we work etc then you might want to visit our main website’s blog pages:

Safety awareness training for freelancers

An increasing amount of the content used on media channels is gathered by freelancers, with many putting themselves in harms way to get the “piece”. Whether in the aftermath of a natural disaster or in a conflict zone a lack of planning can have catastrophic consequences.

Our Safety Awareness Training for freelancers course is designed to set the foundations of good safety practice for this fluid working group.

This one day Safety Awareness Course covers both ends of the task, pre-deployment and the possible after effects of covering nature disasters or wars.

The course can be adapted to meet the specific requirements of the delegates but typically covers:

Pre-assignment considerations:

Assessing risk

Completing risk assessments

Kit and equipment requirements

Insurance considerations: personal & equipment

Information security: written and electronic [including social media]

Medical requirements: personal health issues; travel health; first aid kit contents

Safety awareness training for freelancers

Emergency planning: injury; illness; lost; overdue

Post traumatic stress

What is Post traumatic stress [PTS]; when is it PTS; why does it happen; why are media workers affected.

How to recognise PTS: in colleagues; in contributors; in yourself.

Coping strategies: for colleagues; for contributors; for yourself.

Interviewing victims of trauma.

Sources of help: free; at cost.

All training is conducted to reflect in house policies and procedures and/or equipment.

The course is designed to promote good practice in the media sector, particulary amongst the freelancer community. Many of the topics covered in this course can be expanded upon with further training available.

Contact us on 0800 242 5210 or by info@lazarustraining.co.uk to find out more or to discuss your specific needs.
